GIVENCHY Fluid Foundation Airy-Light Mat Radiance SPF 20. My current favorite foundation. I know I'm always changing foundations; but its a must as a makeup artist to have as much knowledge about products as possible. Reasons being: new products coming out, texture changes (winter vs. summer), color changes, more coverage vs. less coverage, etc. So, I am a little guinea pig for you. FYI, I will never post "I HATE this foundation" only because what doesn't work for me doesn't necessarily mean it won't work for you and vice verse. Moving on, THIS foundation, I absolutely love. It is the only foundation I have found that is MAT+Radiance! Usually, I stay away from radiance/glow foundations because I have combination skin (dry face+oily t-zone). I also stay away from super mat foundations because it feels like cake and I can't move my face! But, Givenchy has somehow come up with a formula to satisfy us complicated women...a "radiant matte finish". It goes on very smooth, but dries and stays in place. It has a slight glow to brighten up your face without making you look oily. FINALLY, we (complicated women) can now have glowy skin too! yay! This doesn't mean that you "normal" to "dry" women can't use this as well. My sister and I are a perfect example of this text. She has dry skin and even she fell in love with this product! This product is medium coverage and costs $51, exclusively sold at Sephora. If you would like to go the extra step, try setting it in with GIVENCHY Teint Couture Long-Wearing Compact Foundation. Setting it in with this powder gives it a very smooth and velvety finish. I do not recommend this product if you have SUPER oily (all over) and acne-prone as you want to stick with matte foundations that don't reflect light on any of your acne. For use: take a pump of it on your palette (or palm) and use a foundation brush to apply it and use your beauty blender to blend it out. OR what I sometimes do for sheer coverage is spread and blend it with my fingers. I Love Love Love this combo! If your foundation is coming to an end, try this baby out and see how you like it.
Has there been a worse blogger than me? (covers eyes)...its been a while ladies & I DO miss you! I've been really busy with my 3 week courses and it leaves me no room to blog. I should let someone blog my ideas and topics for me, but I am too much of a control freak (eek)! And to be completely honest, I feel like IG has taken over the "blog life". I am constantly posting products, looks & updates on my social media sites. However, the longer posts definitely need more attention. In any case, if you all have any requests that you would like me to blog about, please feel free to comment and let me know! Sometimes its hard to think of what information the beauty consumers are lacking. So, please give me some ideas! Before I forget ,I will be at IMATS 2104, will you be there?! Make sure to stop by and visit me and my crew at my booth! I will be doing demonstrations on the 18th & 19th for the entire day. Once I get the set hours, I will provide you with the exact times of the demos. Super excited to meet all my amazing fans! xoxo
Last week, I had 2 students come down from Brazil to take an intensive course with me. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed their company. We instantly became friends and built such a strong connection. There was definitely a slight language barrier but that didn't stop us from chatting away! Danielle's sister Bella found me and referred me to her sister in Brazil to come take classes with me. By luck, Bella lived 2 blocks away from my studio. How convenient right? But it's as though the universe had made this all happen for us. Although they came to learn makeup from me, I learned so much more from them. After 3 days with them, I felt like I knew them forever and we built such a strong friendship that it was sad to let them go. They were such positive, happy, influential people that touched my heart and effected my life in a way that's hard for me to even explain. How can people you've only spent 3 days have that effect on you? The power of energy. I felt like a different person when they left. They were such a positive influence and furthermore encouraged me to continue my dreams. It was an exciting, fun and emotional three days. Danielle was very overwhelmed and nervous the first day...but after a few hours, she became a different person. She became confident and comfortable by the time our session was over. I can't tell you how good I felt. I felt I gave her what she had given me in return...change. After the class was over, Danielle's sister sent me a very beautiful card that touched me deeply. In the card, she quoted Marianna Williamson and I would like to share it with you...
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory that is within us. And as we let our light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Thank you Bella for being such a supportive individual...xoxo!
This year, Hrush (StyledbyHrush) and I decided to do a Mother’s Day Makeover Giveaway at my studio in Sherman Oaks, Lilit’s Makeup Studio. We would chose 2 Mothers’ that we believed best deserved and needed these makeovers. We posted info about the giveaway in May and asked people to email us as to why they, or someone they know, should win the makeover. Now, we knew this would be hard…but we didn’t realize how hard. We got over 100 emails from daughters, sons, co-workers, granddaughters, you name it! Reading these emails was a very emotional experience for Hrush & I. But the hardest part would be having to pick only 2. We chose 2, because we knew there was no way we could pick 1! But let me tell you…we cut it down to 10 and we were stuck! You realize what a hard battle everyone is fighting and you just want to help everyone. But unfortunately, our time would not allow us. So first, we want to say THANK YOU for everyone who submitted into the giveaway and taking your time to share your stories with us. We hope to continue this tradition, so there will always be next year! With days of reading, debating and eliminating, we finally chose our top 2 winners. Amelia Serrano and Elizabeth Prudencio both shared their heartfelt stories about their mothers. We decided to keep their stories private. We understand that everyone is fighting their own battle; but given the current circumstances, these 2 ladies were in desperate need for a lift in life. Giving them something to smile about, even if it’s for a short period of time. Both these ladies came in very shy and quiet, but at the end of their makeover, they couldn’t stop smiling! God bless Amelia and Elizabeth for being such amazing daughters. We coordinated both their makeovers to be on a special day where their daughters would take them out to a nice evening. Once again, thank you all for sharing your stories with us, we truly appreciate it and wish the best of luck to all the moms who have given up so much to do what they do. We love you. We have made a short video clip that we would love to share. Please search YouTube for “Lilit’s Makeup Studio”. Much Love, Hrush & Lilit. *Please like and subscribe to our studio channel "Lilit's Makeup Studio" for updates on what goes on here at the studio* Thank you!
I am finally coming back from Cancun and back to reality -__- I did absolutely NOTHING for 6 days and it was pretty damn amazing! It was my first time here and I loved everything about it. From the hotel (Riu, Cancun) to the service, the clear water, the food (everyone always says bad things so I was afraid), and most importantly, the weather! The humidity sucked, but I was more worried about rain and hurricanes! But we took our chances anyway because it was the only time I could get away. By the way, a big shout out to Universal Travel and Tours for hooking us up with an amazing deal. Thank you!! I don’t want to leave…however I do miss my bed. It doesn’t matter how amazing it is, anywhere in the world, comes a point you just want your own bed. Now if we could take our beds with us everywhere we go…that would be something! Lol. Anyways I’ve posted enough about my vaca on IG and FB but I did want to post some SUMMER MUST-HAVES! So here they are…
Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Sunscreen with SPF 50+ - I have very sensitive skin. Due to experience, I have learned SPF 15 is just NOT enough, especially in such a hot environment for consecutive days. When I speak of experience, I speak of prior vacations and having my face swell up like a balloon (not a pretty site!). I also learned, I cannot use the same sunblock for my body on my face because it would break me out. My friend Arpi at Kiehl’s in Sherman Oaks recommended this product and I loved it. It was lightweight, it’s for sensitive skin, has an SPF of 50 and not greasy! My face still got red a little bit but it’s bound to being in the sun as long as I was. Overall, I have a nice tan and no swelling! Yay me.
Kieh’s Lip Balm #1! – The first time I used this lip balm, I hated it. Felt like Vaseline on my lips. But it saved me in Mexico! My lips get super chapped super easily. Mainly because I am always using matte long-wear lip colors which tend to dry them out quicker. In my go-to bag by the beach, I kept my Kiehl’s lip balm. Do NOT take a chapstick with you because it WILL melt. This balm is perfect because it is in a tube. It has a spf of 4 and it really absorbs and heals. The texture just takes some getting used to.
Kiehl’s Crème de Corps + Josie Maran Argan Oil = Great combo! – The sun takes away all the moisture from your skin. The last thing I want is my tan to peel away, eek! So I took some of the Kiehl’s Crème de Corps lotion and added a few drops of the Josie Maran Argan Oil and lathered it all over my body. I would put it on every night after a shower and made sure to let it really soak in before I got into bed…trying to let my skin heal from the damage I caused to it all day.
Enjoy! Conditioning Spray – After shower, I always use this product…otherwise I can’t brush my hair! I have very dry hair so it gets tangled really quickly. But if you are in the sun all day, your hair will dry out even more especially with the salt and the chlorine combined. I love this product because it has no alcohol in it! Its smells amazing and you can also spray it on your body…yes, your body! If you haven’t tried this yet, you will be in love.
I LOVE this stuff! I carry it in my bag in the summer and spray it several times throughout the day. It refreshes your makeup and/or refreshes your face. There is quite a few on the market. The Caudalie Beauty Elixer is one of my favs (read more about it in my previous posts) but it is a little more expensive because of all the essential oils it has. If you want a more basic one, you can try the Mario Badescue Rosewater Facial Spray. I love Mario Badescue products; focus is on the product rather than the packaging, therefore the more inexpensive price point. Another one I love is the Evian Facial Hydrating Sprays. Its pure water in an aerosol and made specifically for facial hydration.
If you want to chill by the pool…fashionably. Make sure you put on a lip stain and not a lipstick. Some of my favs are LimeCrime, Stila and OCC. They’re waterproof, smudgeproof and who wants to retouch anyway?
Anastasia Beverly Hills: Brow Pen – These brow pens come in 2 shades, light and dark. Now they are not to “perfect” the eyebrows because it is much lighter and liquidier in consistency than pencils. But if you are one to never leave the house (or hotel room) without eyebrows, this product is a must. You fill in your eyebrows and give them more definition and it stays put in water! Who likes melting eyebrows? Ew.
Anastasia Lash Genius – If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I am a fan of this product. It is a waterproof topcoat for any mascara! So if you want to bat your lashes in the pool, make sure water-proof them!
Hello Blogees! Hope you all had an amazing weekend. Mine was filled with work and exciting events! This year was the first year that they did the PhameXpo show. It is a huge beauty convention similar to IMATS, held at the Pasadena Convention Center. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it Saturday and missed meeting a lot of people :( BUT, Sunday was amazing. I love events like these because we get to meet some of our favorite artists from Instagram which we love and follow but have never actually met. I got to meet and greet with some of my favs in the industry: BeauybyMeganNaik, AlanaDawn, PalaFoxxia, MakeupbySharona, Makeup_by_Jackie, Glam_Trash_Mua, AmyRittiner, Kalognomos, just to name a few. We are all friends and fans of each other on the social media channels and admire and inspire each other but meeting them in person was a whole different experience. As an artist, you are never "the best", we are all amazing in what we do in the WAY we do it. And together, we are even a stronger team. (In ANY career you are in, I believe this to be true). Anywho, I didn't go too crazy with the shopping (at least I tried not to) but I did get a few items that really caught my eye and I really wanted! I've posted my buys below!
As posted on Instagram, LimeCrime came out with their new lipstick in "Babette". As you all know, I am already a huge fan of her lipsticks, especially in Cosmopop and Coquette. They refer to Babette as the cousin to Coquette. So basically, it is similar just a little more pinker and its beautiful! You'll see it on my clients posts soon. This lipstick will be available July 12 at Naimies.
The London Brush Company: Brush Shampoo - This product caught my eye because there are not a lot of solid brush shampoos available (there aren't a lot of brush shampoos, period). And in this case, it is made with natural ingredients. I picked up the Lemon; but there was unscented and one other one I can't remember (sorry!) I have included the info right off their website at www.LondonBrushCompany.com. The info is very informative as it teaches you about cleaning brushes and sanitation!
"Pure Goat Milk and Essential Oil Brush Shampoo 2oz
Our Brush Shampoo is the envy of many brands. Made from a secret recipe, by hand in California from combined vegetable oils, saponified goat milk and essential oil with a touch of tea tree as an anti bacterial, Brush Shampoo cleans and conditions your makeup brushes without chemicals. And because it has no chemical compound and is a solid in a pot, it makes it safe and easy to travel with too.
Cleaning brushes has never been easier, and it's just as well because you MUST keep those brushes clean. Cleaning them 2 - 3 times a week is very important to prevent bacterial build up. Your face sheds around 9 million dead skin cells each day, and a percentage of those embed in your makeup brushes. Combine that with drying makeup and there is a recipe for bacterial growth which can lead to skin irritation.. So ladies, CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES.. it only takes 5 minutes or less!
2oz of Brush Shampoo cleaning around 6 brushes 3 times a week will last you 5-6 months."
OCC Lip Tars: New colors to my collection! I love this stuff! I collect a lot of stains because my clients need long wear colors that they don't need to retouch! I fell in love with this bright red coral called "Harlot" because I can never have enough bright colors in my kit. I also picked up "Interlace" and "Hush" , which are beautiful neutral colors. There aren't that many neutral lips stains out there, most have color so I was excited to pick these up. If you are anything like me and you hate retouching your lips, you gotta grab one of these babies, they come in so many different lip shades. And seriously, the tinniest amount goes a long long way...so worth the penny! You can get these from Sephora. I will post looks for them soon!
How have I not blogged about this yet? So important! I talk about this in every seminar and 9 out of 10 times, students don't know the difference. This is normal though. Why? Because these cosmetics companies don't really clarify the difference on the packaging and some of the artists behind the counter don't even know. And unfortunately, some of the youtube gurus don't know the difference either because video and flash camera read off makeup differently, so again, you wouldn't physically see the difference. So, what IS the difference? Setting powders are to set in your foundation. Anytime you use a cream or liquid, you need to set it in with setting powder so that it lasts long and so that your blush and bronzer don't get spotchy and also to matte out the shine (oily shine, you don't want). Finishing powder is a product you just dust on at the end AFTER the setting powder. Finishing powders are softer and silkier in consistency and soften up any fine lines and wrinkles on flash camera. A typical finishing powder is HD powder. If you set in your foundation with a finishing powder, your face will turn white. When the HD powders first came out, a lot of makeup artists weren't really aware of the difference. They just thought, if it gets rid of fine lines and wrinkles, lets load it up! And long behold...poor celebrities looked coke-faced. I have attached some pictures below, eek! Note: the powder you buy will be labeled either "Setting Powder" or "Finishing Powder". In conclusion, HD powders are amazing for HD cameras, but use it minimally! You're welcome :)
Thursday was the last day for my students at my three week professional course. It's always such a bitter-sweet ending! I am excited and happy for them but sad to let go of the close relationship I built with each one. We definitely keep in touch after the courses; but I don't get to see them everyday anymore and it's almost like a break-up lol. I fall in love with the girls in my course, EVERY TIME! Do I just attract amazing people or what? Maybe it's luck? Anyway, we did a small celebration with food, drinks, pictures and certificates! We had a guest speaker, Sofia (from Naimie's) come in to talk to the class about products, marketing, tips and tricks! If you are not following her on IG, you should be! Her username is "TalkBeautyToMe" and she is my beauty guru! Thanks for coming out and sharing your knowledge Sofia! It is amazing to see each one progress so much week after week. Yes, makeup is fun but it is also a LOT of work! They would come everyday and practice their butts off until they got it right. They are ambitious, supportive of one another and excited. This course is built in a way to bring out the best in YOU as an artist. To be able to create your own unique style and stand out as an individual in a pool of artists. It's an intensive course with everything you need to learn about makeup and the flawless application of it. We learn everything from scratch and finish off with drama! If you are interested in more info on the course, please log onto www.LilitsMakeupStudio.com for more info. You can also email us at LilitsMakeupStudio@gmail.com to register. I've attached some of the photos throughout the week and I continuously update everyone on IG and FB on their progress. Hope you are enjoying the sneak peeks! <3
So I HAVE to talk about one of my beautiful brides from this weekend. So I learned that it is tradition for the Bridal party to get ready together at a salon. The most fun bridal group I have met thus far! They had Persian music, deserts & champagne to get the party started! The preparation of makeup and hair included singing and dancing. I must say, EVERY bride needs a supportive, hyper, happy, group like them. Most brides are usually stressed out and nervous the day of their wedding. Azadeh, our beautiful bride, did not have a chance for that! Her mom, sister and friend made sure that, that smile, stayed on her face the entire time. My golly, the smile stayed on MY face the entire time! Along with music and treats came a big group of videographers and photographers. V Production was here capturing every moment of this special time. The studio was crowded with other clients as well but everyone stopped and watched as we gave the beautiful bride-to-be away...we were all in tears! It was such a beautiful and emotional experience for everyone. To start off, she had to be one of the most stunning brides we have ever seen! But when her husband-to-be came to "pick her up"...his expression said it all. The second he saw her, his face was just priceless. Their eyes teared up the moment they saw each other, filling up the whole room with emotions. You could tell, this was LOVE. I am so thankful for such an amazing experience. Wishing Azadeh and Shawn a very long, healthy, happy life together. God bless you. <3
How about both?! So I really really love the Josie Maran Cleansing Oil (love the whole line as you already know). Mind you, when I first got it, I wasn't using it right. I'd wet my face and cleanse...not so successful, it wasn't "cleansing". So then I would just use cotton pads to take off eye makeup and use Clairsonic for the rest of my face. Well, turns out, that's not the right way either. When I met with the fabulous Beauty Executive Trainer Gina, at Josie Maran...she set me on the right track. Half the time we buy things and don't use it right then claim we hate it. Knowledge is power! Yes, even with makeup :) Power is in your hands...ok, I'll stop. Anywho! So you're supposed to take a pump or two in your dry hands, rub it together and rub it all over your dry face. Your face will turn into a big ol' mess with your foundation, mascara, brow pencil and blush all rubbed together! (Beware:it's a sight to see) It's great because it doesn't burn your eyes. Once you feel like your face has melted off (...ha!), then start rinsing it with water. Feels amazing and the makeup is all gone! If there is any residue left around your eye, then take a round cotton pad to it. Because Argan Oil is a natural oil, cleansing with this will NOT break you out. I know "oil" sounds scary but of course there's the good and the bad. And Argan is just, great! After I've cleansed my face with the Argan Cleansing Oil, I use my Clairsonic with its cleanser to deeply cleanse my pores. I don't like removing my makeup with this (although you can) but I feel like it just rubs around my makeup all over the place. Sooo that's about it. Moral of the story, I love both didn't know which one to use, so figured out a way to use both and it works perfectly for me. Hope you found this helpful. #skincleansingdrama #onlywomen :/
