You look beautiful today! Your makeup is on point, your hair is on point...YOU are on point. You grab your camera/iPhone and start snapping photos, feeling hotter than ever! Then you click "photos" and review...what the heck?! Is THAT how you really look today? You're confused; you wonder who is telling you the truth. Do you trust the mirror or the camera? Ladies...the mirror doesn't lie. But that camera? I have questions about it's integrity. Some days, it works in your favor and other days...not so much. The camera plays tricks on you!
Sun: It's really important to take photos at certain times of the day. Usually around 5pm is ideal because the light is not so harsh at that time. If you so need to take photos earlier in the day, make sure you are standing under the shade and the sun should be behind you. You never want to face the sun directly because it's a lot harsher.
Lighting: It's important to invest in a good light. "Daytime" lighting would be ideal. You do not want to use the yellow lights or the flourescent light unless that's the look you're going for. Daytime lightbulbs will bring out the true colors of your makeup and face. A soft box is a great tool to have too if you're a makeup artist. It softens up your features and gives you a nice glow ok camera. Lastly, the ring light! This light is the magic light. I got mine from Stellar Lighting Systems. It comes with a little mirror you can attach to see yourself and a phone/camera holder. If you'd like to purchase one, they were nice enough to give me a discount code for my fans! Use "stellarmakeupbylilit" at checkout for 10% off! I personally love this light!
Camera: iPhone cameras 5 and up are great. Anything below that, you may struggle a bit as your photos will not come out as clear or as clean. Other than that, you might need to invest in a good camera if you are going to continue taking photos for professional/work reasons. It will save you photoshopping and editing time! It's truly an investment!
I've seen so many talented makeup artists with horrible photos and it makes me sad! And I hope YOU are reading this to better your photo taking skills. You're talented, show the world what you got! Xo
