Saturday night I was invited to the Dose of Colors headquarters for one of the most beautiful events I've been to. Everything was beautiful from the blush chiffon curtains as you walk in, to the gold & mirrored high chair and tables, the food & dessert setup, the big portraits of the launch campaigns and of course the ice bar! Oh and not to forget the photo section (which I unfortunately didn't get a chance to take a photo in *crying face*) with the single roses hanging upside down all the way down the wall. If you haven't seen any of this, it is all over Instagram just search for the tag #desixkaty.
Decorations put aside, I am really proud of the girls for this launch. Both Desi & Katy are so talented in makeup and so educated with products - I did not expect less from them. They are very hard working girls and truly honest with anything they put out there. If they don't love it, they won't say they love it! So you better believe their products are none less. And teaming up with Dose of Colors is something that just FITS their brand so well. Congrats Anna, Katy & Desi on such a beautiful collaboration! Now lets get started on the goodies...
The packaging is simply beautiful. From the soft touch nude box, the gorgeous photo of the girls, the metallic nude packaging and glittery compacts! Even the lipsticks & liquid lipsticks have a soft touch feel. As a developer & creator, I know the difficulty of packaging. Every single thing must be thoroughly thought out in advance. You create an image in your head and hope it comes together perfectly once actually sampled out. This process is usually not easy and sometimes takes several tries. In other words, I can definitely appreciate these products and their packaging! It is also great to know that Desi & Katy both had creative freedom with the entire collection! Now let's open these babies up...
This quad comes in 4 very different yet versatile shades: Suz (champagne), Noli (bronze), Turbosan (gunmetal), Harpoon (olive). Suz is the perfect champagne color you can use in your tear duct, your brow bone and as a topper for a halo effect on the eyes. Suz is best used with a wet finger. Noli is your ideal bronze shade with NO ORANGE (haha - check Desi & Katy's review). Turbosan is a color that is really just hard to describe lol - somewhat gunmetal somewhat dark plum. In fact, I believe it has a plum base with silver glitter which come off as reflectors, so pretty! Harpoon is another difficult color to describe - I would say Turbosan and Harpoon are best described as a two-tone color because of the base/glitter. Harpoon is the perfect olive shade topped off with some gold glitter - you have the intensity in both! Harpoon is also best used with a wet finger.
As bright as all the shades look, they actually have a very soft and satin finish. I have taken photos below without flash so you can see how subtle these can actually be and how wearable they are. On the left I have twirled my finger in it 2-3 times and on the right I have swatched them each one time. You can definitely build the intensity, as you can see, by either layering the product or using it wet.
Here, I spritzed some of the Elcie Hydra Enhancer on my fingers before I dug them into the eyeshadows. You can see it looks a lot more intense and almost "wet" looking. When used wet, you need absolutely no base to get the colors you see here. Of course, again, this is using absolutely no flash and no sunlight. In the sunlight - these shades are absolutely poppin! (as seen on their snapchats ;)
They also launched two shades of highlighters in the gold family. The pigments are super creamy with amazing payoff! On the left, Mirame, is a deeper bronze shade that almost has a rose gold finish. I LOVE bronzers with a rose gold hint because I feel it's close to our skin tone so it just fits right in, blending into the skin tone. On the right, you have Fuego, which is more of a truer gold. This would definitely be more "poppy" on the skin and brighten and lift vs. melting in. Of course, all this has to do with your skintone too. The swatches below will help you better determine the right shade for you.
I am SO glad they created classic lipsticks. As much as I love and will always wear liquid lipsticks, something about a classic lipstick is just...classic. Especially with a nude, I love a lipstick formula because it just looks so fresh and natural on the skin vs. a super matte nude finish. On the left you have No Shade & on the Right, More Creamer Please (coming from the joke about their Starbucks orders lol) - love it!
The formula is a new one they helped create for Dose of Colors. The texture is super creamy, opaque, but yet a thin almost satin finish. No creamer please (on left) is the perfect deep nude with no orange & no pink. It almost looks like a skin tone if you ask me lol. The lighter you are, the darker this may look on your and the darker you are the lighter, more natural it will look on you. Same story with No Shade, lighter finish for dark tones and more natural to lighter finish with lighter skin tone. And this is the deal with ANY lip color on the market. Based on the swatches, you can determine which is more 'you'. For me, I switch it up all the time! I love all shades of nude and you can truly never have enough!
Liquid Matte Lipsticks
You KNOW I am all about that Hot Fire! It looks almost Coral-y in the photo, but its def more orange-y in person. I am ALL about this shade and cannot wait to try it on. Savage (with an accent - where is the accent sign?!), is a dark vampy shade that comes off almost red, almost purple. Desi and Katy both described it as "Oxblood" and I have to say thats the perfect description. I love this shade; but not something I'd regularly wear. Because I am so olive, I need to have a nice tan to pull this off, otherwise I look Goth with these shades lol. AND I am more of a "au natural" typa girl. Desi & Katy an pull off annyyyyy shade (seriously, how?) but if you have a tanner to darker skin, I think this shade will look bomb diggy!
Over the Top Lip Gloss
I've mentioned several times how I am not so much of a "color gloss" type of girl - so you know I am loving Over The Top. This lip gloss is clear with tiny gold specks that make the skin look like its just glistening. Again, I have not used flash yet so you can see how it looks in regular lighting. I lost the picture I took with a flash lol, but I am sure you can imagine the glitter glistening. This to me seems more like a Lip Topper as well, add on top of any shade for that extra oomph.
And I leave you with these delicious adorable chocolates! So creative & such a nice treat! Let me know your thoughts on the launch! I will be doing a YouTube tutorial with it soon so you will be able to see it in true colors on video. Till next time!
